A LIVING COLLECTION OF VIEWS

In a place where natural exuberance prevails and the starry sky embraces smoothly the lines and lights of landscape, the insertion of the observatory aims the least possible impact and the maximum preservation of
the existing environment. The sky drifts to the hill, that turns into rocks which sustain the fortress, that in turn grows into sky again, assembling so harmoniously that they become one. In this unique and exclusive geographical situation, human being can fully enjoy what nature and history provide together.

The project invites all those who share a passion for observation to deepen their perspectives of the sky and landscape through a living collection of views inspired
by early optical devices. Leon Battista Alberti´s perspective window (1436), used by artists to draw landscapes, and Galileo´s telescope, known as a perspective tube capable of rendering moon´s texture visible to the human eye (1610), materialize the indivisible character of the arts and sciences of human visual perception. The living collection of views aims to overcome the confinement of observation to specialized fields and spaces to bring together different experiences of sky, nature and heritage in the same place. The views of the pre-existing landscape – natural, spatial and built – are the utmost element of the project, so spaces are constructed unobtrusively as visual devices to enhance human view. A careful combination of transparent and opaque planes frames interior views while paths and terraces open up to limitless sensorial connections with sky and nature on the outside. A non-invasive implantation continues existing paths and creates a multileveled network of paths and lifted modular units from which observers will be able to merge into the landscape and reach the stars.
